A dedicated line can be anything from an extra phone line that stays attached to your modem at home to a 24-hour T1 connection to the Internet backbone. There is a growing trend toward distinguishing between a dedicated line, which may be a dial-in line to an Internet Service Provider, and a dedicated connection, which provides full, 24-hour interconnectivity.
